Tony Leon, former Democratic Alliance leader, diplomat and author, joins Newsday’s Antowan Nothling for a candid conversation about the ANC’s decline, the DA’s prospects and South Africa’s strained relationship with the United States.
Leon explains why he believes the ANC is in a “death spiral” and warns that winning the most votes will not necessarily mean taking power. Drawing on his diplomatic experience, he also argues that South Africa cannot simply wait for a change in American leadership to resolve its problems with Washington.
